Since Isengard have just released a great album and Neptune Towersī second album is available, we thought it would be a nice opportunity to ask Fenris some questions concerning them both. Read on and you will find out what he answered. The newly released "Transmissions From Empire Algol" is the end of this "Algol" concept. what is this concept based on? - The 2 releases could just easy have been a 2 CD-box. What I mean is that I have link-visions from each of the four songs. This stuff is mostly for myself. The concept is based upon my own visions, but Iīve given everyone the basic 4 clues in the booklet of the first release. I believe Algol is a star. Could you share some information about this star? Is this the star beyond stars? - Algol, the way I use it symbolically, can very well be the star beyond all stars. Only symbolically, Algol is a twin star. Algol means "winking demon". The star looks like it winks because it is a twin star, they move around each other rather fast, you see. Neptune Towers is also a song from the first Darkthrone album. Are there some links between this song and Neptune Towers (the "project/band")? - Yes, I adore both the song title "Neptune Towers" and the poetry that comes with it. It inspired me to use the title for my astral synth vibes. It fills me with awe to think of the Neptune Towers. Neptune, for me, has nothing whatsoever to do with water. Water sucks. Is it important for you that your listeners understand Neptune Towersī music and concept? - Itīs important that they can feel deep space, or mighty sights of the universe at least. Your next compact disc for Neptune Towers is called Spacelab. Could you tell something in connection with this one? Is this a concept disc too? - Itīs not a concept thing, at least not combined with future releases. Yet. The Spacelab CD is just being in a spacelab, for me that is dwelling in the confinement of space in a cabin filled with machines, computer, hi tech devices and with a window where one can glance out of the spacelab to see glorious sights, planets, astral fogs etc. Sort of dealing with the contrast of having to be surrounded by technical items in order to "be there", in other words space travel/space sights seeing. Are the reactions in connection with Neptune Towers as expected? what about the sales? - Most people do not understand. That is rather strange because Neptune Towers has clearly been promoted as deep space avant garde alien astral synth. If people expect anything else, I donīt know what to do. I think that mostly people who have heard early works of Klaus Schulze are able to understand, or feel, Neptune Towers in the right way. The music has no sales potential, as no one listens to this music anymore. If it was released in early 70īs it would have sold lots! People seemed to be more "spaced" in their heads in those days. Are you under influence from outer space? Do you consider your musical skills gifts from sources outside your body? - I donīt know. Is Neptune Towersī music, music that should lead your listeners out into unknown space? - I believe so. Do you think it is easier to catch the outer space feeling around Neptune Towers with the use of drugs? - I donīt know exactly. I guess it wouldnīt do any harm to do drugs while listening/experiencing Neptune Towers. From Neptune Towers to Isengard! Isengard has just released a totally excellent album on Moonfog. Will we see you take Isengard further into the beauty of Norway and Norwegian feelings? - Isengard is in deep hibernation at the moment, so - no plans are made. No new material is made or planned. My current favourite Isengard song is "Total Death". Check it out! Has Isengard always been a solo project? When exactly was it formed? - Isengard has always been a one man-band. Isengard was born in the Summer of 1989. In connection with Darkthrone you once said that you will have a slightly better sound in the future. Does this also go for Isengard? Crunchy sound is elite profound... - No plans are made, but to take a wild guess I would say that Isengard also will have slightly better sound in the future. This is because the glorious Necrohell Studios has escaped. "Storm of Evil" from the third part of "Vinterskugge" was one of the highlights on your debut album. Do you have more material from this period yet not released? What do you think about this period in Isengardīs existence? - The "Horizons" part of the album is not really a certain period in time. Itīs just 4 songs that are different, sort of. I donīt have any more material fro this period (lie). (What, a lie in Nordic Vision... you son (of a bitch)...fy fishbone! -ed) Why did you decide to get help on two parts on "Høstmørke"? Donīt you break the principle of a solo project by doing this? - Help? Ohh, I wanted to hail Vicotnick and Aldrahn by giving them one "Guest spot each on this "Høstmørke" album. Itīs just a guest appearance, you person! I donīt break the principle at all by doing this. |
