Marduk was formed in Sep. ´90, so it has been going on for a while now. "Fuck me Jesus" was released in June ´91 and their debut LP/CD was out in January ´93. Now their 2nd album "Those of the unlight" has been out for a while and the band is among the elite bands in Scandinavia. That should be the most important things to mention before this int. Morgan answered our questions. Your album "T.o.t.u." has been out for a while now. Has it sold well? Are you pleased with the result? - I still haven´t seen any selling figures from Osmose Productions, but I think it has sold quite well so far. Yes, we are very satisfied with the result. "Those of the Unlight" is far better than "Dark Endless". Happy with Osmose so far? - Actually we are very satisfied with the work Osmose has done for Marduk so far. But it can still improve. I think everything work out in the future. For how many albums are you signed? - We signed to Osmose for 3 albums. The first album we released for Osmose was "Those of the Unlight" and our next album will hopefully be released around Sep/Oct ´94. And that one will kill. Will Marduk do a tour as some other Osmose bands have done? - Right now a tour is being planned with us and Immortal. The tour will go under the title "The Northern Darkness tour" and it will take place in April/May ´94 in countries like France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Spain, Italy and Portugal, and it might even be some gigs in Norway and Sweden. We´ll see. Has the band developed from "Dark Endless" till now? - I would say we have developed a lot between our albums. "Those of the Unlight" is a much stronger album than "Dark Endless". It has a better production, better songs. More atmospherical sound. To describe it short. It´´s dark and evil. Why does Marduk play the style of music it does? - To spread hatred and to pervert peoples souls. Tomas of "No Fashion" had some financial problems. Did this effect you? Were you pleased with N.F.? - It might have affected us a bit in things as promotion and distribution. The "Dark Endless" album is nearly only available in Scandinavia and on import in some other European countries. The distribution should have been better and he should have done more promotion in magazines and that kind of stuff. You should have played in Oslo a while ago. Together with Emperor and Dissection. Will this gig take place? - I´m not sure right now. I haven´t heard anything about it for ages. But I surely hope it will take place some time in the near future. You are also playing in Abruptum. Any second album coming soon? - Abruptum´s second fullenght album "In umbra malitiae ambulabo. In aeternum in triumpho tenebrarum" is to be released some time Feb/March ´94 on Deathlike Silence Productions (anti-mosh009), and it is supposed to be the final release on D.S.P.. It´s a worthy ending to the best label that has ever existed. What are your inspirations when it comes to music? - My personal influences comes from Thorns (rip), Mayhem, Possessed (old), Kreator, Necrovore and Morbid. Are you concerned about the future for Black Metal? I mean, what is happening to BM is the same as did happen to DM some years ago. Can this development be stopped in any way? - The scene will clean itself. Idiots and fakes will disappear while the elite will conquer. What are the future plans for Marduk? - Our nearest future plans is to make a European tour together with Immortal and then we will consentrate on our 3rd album which probably will be released Autumn ´94, and then conquer the World. |
